Mentoring Resources for the Professional

If you provide point-of-contact care to pregnant mothers, and have been impacted by loss either professionally or personally, this program will provide you with confidential, comprehensive support.

If your role is any of the following, this program is applicable to you:

  • doulas
  • hospice workers
  • leaders of pregnancy loss organizations
  • mentors or counselors or chaplains
  • ultrasound technicians
  • paramedic professionals
  • nurses
  • midwives
  • doctors
  • if you are a birth educator (author, teacher, social media user, or in any other capacity), stillbirthday interviewed several professionals to bring you helpful information for broaching the subject of pregnancy loss

Who is behind this program?

Stillbirthday created this program to fill the need of providing private mentorship to the care provider.  The SBD Doula Advisory Team lead and coordinate the program.  Our Doula Advisory Team are credentialed doulas who have successfully completed our intensive training program and who have demonstrated the leadership qualities necessary to provide and maintain such a valuable program.  You can visit our Executive Team page for the full listing of names of the DAT team members.

This at-your-own-pace program provides comprehensive support in the following areas:

  • Physical care of mom and baby (a checklist, of sorts).
  • Identifying support resources for the grief of the professional (you).
  • Grief exchange – determining what loss means to the professional, spiritually and culturally, determining appropriate ways to exhibit grief to family, exploring ways the family may exhibit their grief toward the professional, how to support the family through their grief.
  • Moving forward – anticipating future clients, working through fear, finding a place of healing.

You can begin this program at any time, right where you are.

This is the only program that is so strongly devoted to the confidential bereavement care of the professional.  This opportunity will benefit you not only emotionally, physically, spiritually and practically but also professionally.

Benefits:

  • Confidential Communication – just knowing there is a place where you can share your thoughts and experiences openly can be very validating and healing.
  • Flexible – you are provided a one-on-one email mentorship along with a supportive, informative booklet complete with insights, wisdom, tools, and journaling space.  The mentorship aspect mirrors our parents mentorship program in communications structure.  This means you can contact the DAT member of your choice to begin the private mentoring, and/or utilize our Provider Care Program booklets.

  • Mentoring all Midwives (MaM)  –  This is the core of the program for midwives.  It is a way to connect, ask questions, and gain support confidentially – to look at the most challenging questions during perinatal loss including those that are difficult even to mention: “Why is the family blaming me?” “Why am I blaming myself?” “Should I fear other people blaming me?”   Along with the many other questions and issues that can plague us, such as compassion fatigue, and why supporting a family can seem to re-open our own grief. These important questions, and more, are outlined through MaM.  This is a workbook format that you can purchase at (this link).  The opportunity for private mentoring is included with the workbook.

  •  Mentoring other Professionals (MoP)  –  This is the core of the program for all other providers and professionals, including nurses, with content review by Jennifer Mull, R.N. These important questions, and more, are outlined through MoP.  This is a workbook format that you can purchase at (this link).  The opportunity for private mentoring is included with the workbook.
