Here is our list of SBD speakers.  Whether you invite Heidi Faith to speak, or you are considering hiring a stillbirthday speaker to your event, I’d like to make sure you know of the stillbirthday framework that your SBD Speaker agrees to:

 

SBD Speaker Accountability

Relevance:

  • All speakers are given specialty designations.  Please hire a speaker with the appropriate designation of your event.
  • All speakers are also SBD doulas and have read and agree to our Principles of Service.  In particular to presentations, this incudes not re-sharing anything held at stillbirthday by families – this includes but is not limited to photos, videos and stories.  We treasure the confidence of the stillbirthday community and nothing will be taken out or studied over, ever.  If your event is educational in nature, your affiliate is prepared to brainstorm for other, creative ways to discuss the importance of pregnancy and infant loss support.
  • Each speaker will bring their own supplies, which will be different based on your event.  If you’d like your speaker to bring any of Heidi Faith’s materials, a rental agreement may be arranged.

Fairness:

  • Our speakers are part of a collaborative circle.  They also agree to serve events based on location/region and offer event opportunities to one another based on specialty designation as well as location.
  • All speakers agree to inform stillbirthday of their upcoming events, for possible revision, editing, retraction and ultimately for publication on our events page.

Honesty:

Financial & Organizational:

  • Contracts and financial arrangements are made between the event host and speaker, and stillbirthday is not involved in any way to enforse those decisions.  Individuals who are approved by stillbirthday to speak on our foundational values are not hired employees of stillbirthday but who work as legally autonomous entities entirely separate from the LLC of which stillbirthday is part.
  • Your financial outline can include the f0llowing variables:
  • Early bird registration to secure a minimum amount of attendees, followed by an increase once the minimum is met, and a possible registration seating limit based on the presenter’s desire to offer registrant-quantity items.  Registration, including pricing, is recommended to be made directly from the attendee to the presenter, via the presenter’s independent website.  This helps the presenter remain accountable for any event cancellations including due to under registration.  These things are further detailed in the SBD speakers/hosts/sponsors exclusive access page, which speakers and  hosts have access to.

  • If your venue requires a deposit, this may be distributed within the registration pricing, i.e., the registration pricing might be $20 higher, which will be separated later for the venue.  If the presenter is receiving registrations, that portion is given to the host at the event, and if the host is receiving registrations, that portion is presented to the venue site as needed.  Any overflow (venue inclusion of registration surpassing the venue fee) should be managed in good faith.  This can include anything from discounts or giveaways to the attendees or returned to the speaker.
  • A no-refund policy or other refund policy set forth by the presenter.

  • Speaker availability and pricing based reasonably by location.

  • The host and presenter can discuss contact hours.

  • Each workshop attendee can then return to the stillbirthday website to register for our online doula training program at a reduced rate when completing a workshop survey.


  • You will receive an official stillbirthday book from your presenter: Immediate Decisions or Invisible Pregnancy. 
    Pricing structure is similar but not the same for Birth Professionals, who receive instead our Supporting Birth & Bereavement as a Doula handbook.

  • Disputes or dissatisfaction with your speaker outcome in any way are not the responsibility of stillbirthday.  Your speaker agrees to present to the best of their ability and with the highest amount of integrity.

SBD Speakers comply regarding content:

  • remain in compliance with the stillbirthday overall objective: to reach every community with the message of love in birth & bereavement.  Personal testimonies and anecdotal stories need to remain within a functioning purpose of the overall message and not become a derailment that could potentially divide or isolate an event attendee who may share a similar experience but hold to a differing psycho-spiritual or other support system.  If your presentation includes a secondary objective, including learning a specific technique, approach or value system for example, which is outside the general context of learning about stillbirthday support as a whole, you need to outline this in your promotional materials.
  • remain in absolute transparence with the core of the stillbirthday speaking value: that providing either education (to professionals) or encouragement (to parents) is not satisfactorily achieved through any single brief, one-time encounter and that the primary objective of each of our presentations is not to be an all-inclusive one time experience but to instead establish a foundation from which the community can build upon for holistic healing.  Real growth takes time, commitment, collaboration, transparency, and trust.  Stillbirthday maintains a firm and steadfast commitment to serve separate from and against issues of profiteering or arrogance or agendas contrary to building communities.  In our business dealings and decisions we aim to be uniform in showing a continued ability to slow down, validate, provide options and supplement resources.  We aim to build the stillbirthday global community, because we are all in this together.  Each stillbirthday approved speaker agrees unequivocally to this foundational principle.
  • present for approval (through our private speakers team group) a working outline and syllabus of each of your workshop and speaking presentations, including your agreement to issuing each attendee approved stillbirthday text based on the workshop
  • agreement to stay in compliance with the SBD speaker team financial structure of events and to present accurate SBD structure with hosts and information to attendees.

Comply regarding attendee materials:

  • Each attendee will need to be supplied with stillbirthday approved materials.  You may add your own as well, including any printables or a schedule of the day.
  • M0M Events: Immediate Decisions {$10} or Invisible Pregnancy {$10}
  • Birth Professionals or Community Events: Supporting Birth & Bereavement as a Doula{$10} as well as Miscarriage Kits {$20}.  These texts and items are not for advertising purposes but are for your own benefit by offering accountability as they help each attendee follow the course of your presentation (this is especially helpful if you are a novice speaker).
  • Please allow 3 weeks for shipment to you, and arrange with event host for pickup for attendees if books arrive after your event.
  • You are responsible for offering nursing contact hours, or deciding not to offer them.  Birth professionals have high standards of education and seek to know the latest evidence based care in supporting families.  Many are nurses or require contact hours for the ongoing certification they’ve established through a different organization, and stillbirthday seeks to work in conjunction with our neighboring organizations in birth support.

Comply regarding marketing:

  • share published links to event registrations with Heidi Faith so that we can help promote your events.
  • utilize promotional materials for events that is in uniformity to the speakers team.  You learn this via our private group, and includes approved event titles and descriptions, including for use on social media, that are easily identifiable as affiliated with stillbirthday.
  • all materials and parts of the application, including fee, must be completed and approved before you consider yourself an official affiliated speaker.  It is strongly encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible as approval decision times vary.
  • you will need to include in your application an accurate account of your professional experiences in serving families in-person, in other forms, and in public speaking, as well as disclose this and any changes to this status to your workshop hosts.  It is your responsibility to ensure hosts know they have full access to Heidi Faith.  It is also at the discretion of stillbirthday to recommend to your hosts that they have open dialogue with Heidi Faith and to consider possibilities of options including collaborative speakers – you alongside a more tenured SBD speaker, or your preparing your presentation under the guidance of our Speakers Team.
  • you will need to include in your application that you agree to present access to our feedback form for attendees to directly communicate with Heidi Faith regarding their experience with your presentation.

SBD Speakers remember the humble perspective of sharing:

  • As a doula trainer, it is my desire that in time, we can move into such a place culturally that moms in need can turn to their neighbor for support, that what has become a very professional and collegiate level training will become something that draws us back to our core of service to bring love across all situations.  As a speaker, it is not your objective to be sought after to be the voice for education that others wouldn’t know what to do without you.  It can seem that for every person you teach, you may feel that is one less person, subsequently, who would seek out your teaching, and thus by the very extension of teaching, you are shrinking your market.  It can feel tempting to use that platform then, to advertise about secondary and non-SBD-endorsed materials, organizations products or services.  Whether you serve with integrity as we strongly expect with stillbirthday, or, you slip away from that, one thing is certain, you will never become in such a position as to gain any kind of influential monopoly on birth and bereavement care – none of us do, and flatly, none of us should.  The result of fear or shame can unfortunately look quite similar to the result of selfishness and greed.  If it is determined that your objective has shifted in any way from one of the greatest integrity, you will be invited to resign from your role as speaker until private mentorship and a renewed confidence in your objective can be achieved.
